International Technology InstituteWe Must Think Like Ancestors/ This Fine Lantern
At the risk of dropping objective demeanor, it would be remiss not to emphasize to some extent the passion with which we who measure the meaning of our times view the accomplishments of ITI over the last thirty years, and the emotional power of the ideals that guided us. For the first time in history it became possible to conceive of a world in which there might exist an abundant life for all with freedom and dignity in a safe and secure environment. In all our activities and the development of our networks, we never lost sight of this core conception.
ITI Individual Membership opens up individual opportunities. ITI Corporate Membership opens up corporate opportunities. ITI advances those whom it touches because unrecognized possibilities become both recognized and feasible once people who should be connected are connected. Joining the Institute is a differentiation into that awakened circle already attuned to the global dynamic of this new millennium and a step into fulfilling its promise.
Support of the International Technology Institute through gifts, contributions, and endowments is an act of such utter foresight that those who claim us as their ancestors will bless the ancients for their wisdom. For the banner of this age is still both green and black, still wavering somewhere between a heaven and a hell. Though starry galaxies beckon from orbital telescopes, what is to be the inheritance of our planet's as yet unnamed myriad earthbound children? War, pestilence, famine, want, and the oppression of some devil's oscillation between dictatorship and anarchy? Surely there must be some individuals in this world to declare: " No! No! No! You will come into your own and bend history in your hands!"
For may not the talents needed for an entire continent's salvation spring forth from the very soil of its present sufferings? And who will be there to light this fine lantern, the mind that is born today? Do not excuse the scientist this duty, for science is not value-free. Do not excuse the technologist this duty, for technology is not value-free. Those who have the capacity to understand and to create must never abandon this fine lantern, this child, tomorrow's hope. Otherwise all will be lost to those who have no other capacity than to kill.
Some may say we are naïve. We say no right action is taken in vain. Some may say we are utopians. We say we do what we can. Some may say apocalypse is inevitable. We say violence need not triumph.
In promoting universal development and dialogue as paths to the peaceful coexistence of nations and nationalities, ITI voices the revolutionary consequences of the coming of age of the technology driven economy. The ITI philosophy is both intensely practical and profoundly idealistic. It is as practical as technology itself. It is as idealistic as intelligence seeking to coordinate with other intelligence its own highest value and vision. We must think like ancestors. Only thus will generations to come live long and prosper.
ITI AND THE REDEVELOPMENT OF AMERICA
ITI is keenly aware that implementing our ideals and philosophy begins at home, based in strong national, regional and local chapters with decentralized operations and integrated purpose. The appearance of ITI's "The Third Resource: A Universal Ideology Of Economics" provides a blueprint for improving the standard of living, quality of life, and security for all Americans.
The power of applying ITI philosophies and activities from corporations to academic centers to the inner cities and beyond has a chance to unleash such applied problem solving power as to reverse the decline and suffering experienced in many parts of our country.
For greater wealth to be distributed equitably to our citizens, greater wealth must first be generated. ITI proposes to recognize and encourage the conditions of genuine wealth generation and to carry out operations that support such activity. In so doing we maximize the likelihood that the U.S. retain its position of global leadership while sustaining an economy and living environment second to none. Engineers, scientists, and technologists play a unique role in wealth generation and should be recognized and encouraged for their contributions by society at large.
The emergence of a truly seamless global civilization is still the stuff of science fiction that may or may not evolve in coming centuries. Our reality is of a world divided into nation states and nationalities. Each has the moral imperative to pursue the best interests of its own people. The Institute argues that this interest is best served by mutual dialogue and cooperative development consistent with the values of human dignity and freedom.
ITI recognizes the requirements for national self defense, yet works toward the day when the levels of mutual international interaction and commitment are so well developed that opposing projections of strategic military power become irrelevant. This perhaps sounds utopian, yet can the alternative of perpetual escalation and proliferation of world militaries and weapons of mass destruction continue indefinitely without some clash erupting into unthinkable devastation? ITI holds that gaining the minds of the world's population of billions through unrelenting rational dialogue of what measures are truly in their own self interest and how to duplicate the successes of the United States are what is paramount to ultimate U.S. security. It is to this pressing necessity that we address ourselves.
The United States can best serve the aspirations of its citizens through the full economic involvement of its people. The International Technology Institute holds this is possible only if the consequences of the technology driven economy and conditions for new wealth generation are understood in all fifty states on all levels of society. Then if all the wealth generators of this economy can match needs and capabilities using comprehensive networking and intelligence to satisfy every national and global life enhancing niche they can imagine, Americans need never fear their economy or society will be eclipsed by anyone.
